AllSkyCamera

The AllSkyCamera (ASC) is a simple camera to capture as much of the night sky as possible on a regular basis to record what’s called transient sky phenomenon, i.e. things that cross the sky unexpectedly – such as meteors. I’ll be basing the system on the Raspberry Pi All Sky Camera on Instructables.com. This is an inexpensive, automated sky camera with web interface and some very useful and amazing capabilities.

Some of the requirements I had for this, were a very good match with what ghethco stated:

180 degree (all sky) coverage
• Weatherproof - it is very important to prevent water intrusionHeat tolerant (will be roof mounted)Capture still images for time-lapse videoAll images tagged with time, temperature and humidity (inside the enclosure)Connected to house network by ethernetThe camera must be completely automated, producing a time-lapse video every 24 hours

So when I came across this page in my research, I had an “AHA!” moment. 🙂

In further research, it seems many people went to a case like this one.
